1985 Mariner 40

Alameda, California

$47,500

ALCYONE was built by Ta Yang Yacht Building Co., Ltd., Kaohsiung Hsien, Taiwan for Mariner Marine. She is a classic Bill Garden designed full-keeled ketch ideal for long-range liveaboard cruising.
Solid teak was used for the interior cabinetry, external fan-tail deck, taffrail, rail caps, bow sprint, and carved stern name scroll.

From the Northwest styled bowsprit figurehead carving to the carved teak bow sideboards, and stern teak taffrail, this is a unique and attractive boat. This rare, single-owner boat has been loved and cared for since 1985 like few others.

ALCYONE has lived in San Francisco Bay her entire life. She has never been cruised or used hard. If you are looking for a solid, strong, tasteful boat, welcome aboard and see if it fits in your dreams.

From the Mariner 40 Brochure
"Mariner 40.......a limited production cruising yacht of high quality and sterling reputation.

Mariner 40 is the most luxurious and most comfortable of the ORIGINAL Mariners. This ancient Mariner has earned at sea the reputation as one of the most reliable, best riding vessels in its class. Like the original 32 and 36, the Mariner 40 was built to be the finest cruising yacht in its size range.

That she is the most imitated design in the sailing world is a tribute to her beauty, ease of handling, powerful and stable ride, world-wide respect as a successful offshore cruiser.
Mariner 40 construction techniques are rooted in the heavy scantlings of her wooden boat heritage, while employing the most modern fiberglass by production methods. The heavily hand-laid hull and deck are permanently joined by an integral sheer clamp.

Inside, the Mariner 40 is a devastatingly beautiful wooden boat, roomy and airy and comfortable. Detail work is exceptional. From the faces of the dovetailed drawers right back to the insulated hull, everything is beautifully finished.

But the yacht must be, above all, functional underway, or this beauty is wasted at sea. The Mariner 40 is precisely that. Storage, so essential for comfortable living, is everywhere you need it...a place for everything. The galley, an enormous U-shaped wooden sculpture, is seagoing, located at the companionway to port, with as much work surface as an apartment, a cockpit-loading icebox, a stainless-lined stove alcove, drawers, cupboards, trash bin, garbage bin and two large windows to look out over your world. No cooped-up, ill-at-ease feeling here. The galley is sheer pleasure.

The pumps, both manual and pressure, are large and reliable. Hot and cold pressure water are standard...so are AC/DC circuit breakers, red night lights, dual batteries, double stainless-steel sinks, wiring run in conduit, isolated vented propane locker, Sampson post, bow roller, lifelines and stanchions, color-coded halyards, spreader lights, anchor pipe, aluminum spars, shore power, a large...cockpit for luxurious cruising, big diesel with full instrumentation and alarms and filters.

Mariners are now in their third decade of setting the standard for quality yacht construction. That is more than 20 years of experience at sea, of refinement, of listening to the suggestions of our fiercely loyal Mariner owners...of employing techniques and cruising details that are still being learned elsewhere.

Mariner 40, the finest and rarest of the Original Mariners is designed and built to provide a lifetime of pleasure, comfort and reliability to fortunate owners.
